Material : Translucent Graphic Film, Compressed PVC Board, Silicone Sealant
Size : Size Variable
Year : 2010

"Taking Off” makes use of the elevation and linearity of the footbridge, and applies the image of an airplane runway to create the atmosphere of an airplane taking off. The elevated runway looks as if floating above the greeneries and poetically vanishes towards the sky behind. The setting is best experienced when viewing through the clear window from the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Jim Chan is a young local architect passionate for installation arts in the urban fabric. He has been actively participating in local and international design competitions and has won a number of awards. Besides this “Taking Off” footbridge shelter beautification project, he has been commissioned to construct a kinetic weather machine at the Hong Kong Science Museum which is now standing as a permanent sculpture at the entrance of the museum.
